Why does pain return after medial branch blocks in Forest Park, Georgia?

Temporary relief can show that targeted spinal nerves contribute to the pain, but it does not promise lasting relief. A pain management physician reviews the response, the pain pattern, and the medical record before discussing radiofrequency ablation or another treatment. New weakness, loss of bladder control, or severe sudden pain needs urgent medical attention.

Medial Branch Blocks in Forest Park and the next treatment decision

Medial branch blocks can help connect a pain pattern with the medial branch nerves near the facet joints. We use them within care for crash-related neck and back pain, including pain linked with whiplash, herniated discs, sciatica, and radiculopathy.

Temporary relief creates a treatment question, not an automatic next step. Our physicians review how the pain changed, how long the change lasted, and whether the response matched the treated area. If the findings fit, radiofrequency ablation may become part of treatment planning. If they do not, we reassess the diagnosis and discuss another approach.

The page serves patients seeking focused care after a motor vehicle collision. It differs from a general pain visit because the key decision follows the response to a targeted nerve block.

  • The pain location and pattern are reviewed before treatment planning.
  • The response to the block is compared with the treated spinal area.
  • Pain recurrence is documented before another procedure is considered.
  • Radiofrequency ablation is discussed only when the clinical findings support it.

Service Overview

Medial branch blocks are targeted injections that help assess pain linked to small nerves near spinal facet joints.

  • Facet joint injections treat the joint area, while medial branch blocks focus on the nerves that carry pain signals from that area.
  • Premier Injury Specialists provides this care for auto accident patients in Forest Park through coordinated clinics in Stockbridge and Buckhead.

Typical costs and sizing

“The second diagnostic procedure may only be performed a minimum of 2 weeks after the initial diagnostic procedure.”

“After the first diagnostic facet joint procedure, there must be a consistent positive response of at least 80% relief of primary (index) pain (with the duration of relief being consistent with the agent used)”

What the response can clarify

A temporary change in pain can help identify whether the treated nerves contribute to symptoms.

Documented relief gives the physician a stronger basis for discussing the next procedure.

Focused review can keep treatment planning tied to the actual pain pattern.

Coordinated records support thorough medical documentation for accident-related care.

Patients receive a plain explanation of what pain recurrence may mean.

Process

Steps from consultation to the next treatment decision

1

Review the accident and symptoms

We discuss the collision, pain location, movement limits, prior care, and relevant medical records.

2

Assess the targeted pain pathway

The physician checks whether the symptoms fit the facet joint area and medial branch nerves.

3

Provide the targeted block

We perform the medial branch block as part of interventional treatment for accident-related pain.

4

Record the pain response

The follow-up review documents how symptoms changed and whether the response matched the treated area.

5

Discuss the next plan

The physician explains whether radiofrequency ablation, another injection, or further evaluation fits the findings.

What patients get from this treatment decision

A response-based treatment choice

Temporary relief is reviewed as clinical information, not treated as a promise of lasting results. The wrong fit is a pain pattern that does not match the targeted nerves.

Physician-LED treatment planning

Board-certified pain management physicians assess the findings and create a personalized plan for injury-related pain.

Accident-focused medical records

Our team connects evaluations, procedures, and follow-up notes within one practice that treats motor vehicle collision injuries.

I had a great experience at premier injury specialist after my car accident. From the moment I walked in, Tracy, the patient coordinator, made sure I understood the process and felt comfortable. Tony, the medical assistant, did an amazing job explaining the procedure in detail, which eased my nerves. Dr. Vyas thoroughly reviewed my MRI and took the time to explain my condition and treatment options. He was very honest and upfront about the procedure, making sure I truly needed the injection before administering it. His transparency and genuine care for my well-being reassured me that this office isn’t just in it for the money — they are truly invested in their patients’ health. I highly recommend this office to anyone in need of pain management. They provide exceptional care with professionalism and integrity.

The staff (Tracy) and the medical folks are very nice. They explain everything to you in plain language before you even get started, and once you see doctor (Dr Scott), the assistant (Areyana) is gentle & sweet. They both will walk you through the entire process verbally, as they go and they make sure you are good before you leave as well. Above & beyond when it comes to bedside manner. Just make sure you don't get lost in the Kroger parking lot, listening to GPS. The clinic is inside Arrowhead across the street, behind Subway.

My injection wasn't as bad as I thought. It was over quick and I was able to move and lift my legs in a way that I haven't in a while. This decision was well worth it. Office was clean and EVERYONE was absolutely amazing. 10 stars

Questions about relief, recurrence, and follow-up care

What happens if medial branch blocks provide temporary relief?

Diagnostic results show that the targeted nerves may contribute to the pain, but they do not guarantee lasting relief. Premier Injury Specialists reviews the amount of relief, the pain pattern, and the medical record. If the findings fit, radiofrequency ablation may be discussed. If they do not, we reassess the source of pain and consider another treatment plan.

How does radiofrequency ablation fit after a block?

Radiofrequency ablation may follow a supportive block response when the same pain pathway remains clinically appropriate. Our physicians explain what the block showed and whether the symptoms still match the medial branch nerves. The decision also considers the accident history, examination findings, and documented pain recurrence. Results vary, so we discuss possible benefits and limits before treatment.

Which symptoms should prompt urgent medical attention?

New weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or severe sudden pain needs urgent medical attention. Ordinary pain recurrence still deserves a follow-up discussion, especially when symptoms change after a procedure. Our team reviews warning signs during care and helps keep the next step tied to the patient’s current condition.

When should a patient ask about another treatment?

A patient should ask about another treatment when pain returns, relief was brief, or symptoms no longer match the original pattern. We compare the new symptoms with the treatment record and physical findings. That review may support radiofrequency ablation, another injection, or more evaluation. Patients should report major changes promptly instead of choosing a procedure without review.

Why might a block give little or no relief?

Little or no relief may mean the targeted nerves are not the main source of pain. The physician reviews the injection target, symptom location, movement limits, and other accident-related conditions. Herniated discs, radiculopathy, soft tissue injuries, and joint pain may require different treatment choices. A limited response helps refine the care plan.

What does the first appointment include after a car accident?

The first appointment includes an injury evaluation, symptom review, treatment discussion, and medical documentation. Bring available accident records, imaging reports, and prior treatment information when possible. We use those details to understand the pain pattern and decide whether targeted interventional care fits. The practice focuses on motor vehicle collision injuries, not primary or urgent care.
