Spinal Nerve Blocks for Facet Pain in Avondale Estates

A medial branch block is designed for a specific question: do the nerves that carry signals from the facet joints contribute to your pain? Facet joints sit at the back of the spine and help guide movement. Irritation in this area may cause focused neck or back pain after a collision.

Patients need more than a label before choosing an injection. Our team reviews the pain pattern, physical findings, crash history, and available imaging. The decision is whether this diagnostic step fits the suspected pain source, not whether every spinal condition needs the same procedure.

The result can help guide care, but it does not promise lasting relief. Pain from a disc, spinal nerve root, or soft tissue may call for a different approach, such as an epidural steroid injection, joint injection, or another treatment plan.

  • A review of the pain location and pattern.
  • A focused assessment of suspected facet-related pain.
  • A discussion of available imaging and injury records.
  • A suitability review before a diagnostic injection.
  • An explanation of how the pain response may guide follow-up care.

Service Overview

Medial branch blocks are targeted diagnostic injections that test pain signals from small nerves near spinal facet joints.

  • A facet joint injection treats the joint area directly, while a medial branch block checks whether nearby nerve signals relate to the pain.
  • Premier Injury Specialists provides this assessment for auto accident patients in Avondale Estates through its Metro Atlanta injury practice.

When this service is the right fit

A patient in Avondale Estates may have back pain that continues after the first signs of a collision injury settle. If the exam suggests facet involvement, our team reviews the records and discusses whether a diagnostic injection can answer that specific question.

What Patients Get From This Spinal Pain Assessment

A focused fit check

The first decision is whether the pain pattern points toward facet involvement. Customers receive a focused assessment before the injection is considered. This service is the wrong fit when the main concern points to another untreated cause, such as a disc or nerve root problem.

Physician-LED treatment planning

Board-certified pain management physicians lead care within a coordinated injury practice. The plan can connect the injection discussion with medical documentation and other interventional treatments.

Care for collision injuries

Our practice treats motor vehicle collision injuries, including whiplash, neck pain, back pain, headaches, radiculopathy, and soft tissue injuries. We do not provide general primary care, urgent care, or workers’ compensation care.

Our physician examines whether the symptoms and findings fit pain linked with the facet joints.

3

Discuss the diagnostic injection

We explain the purpose of the injection, the expected clinical question, and relevant safety points.

4

The follow-up discussion considers how your response fits the wider treatment plan.

5

I had a great experience at premier injury specialist after my car accident. From the moment I walked in, Tracy, the patient coordinator, made sure I understood the process and felt comfortable. Tony, the medical assistant, did an amazing job explaining the procedure in detail, which eased my nerves. Dr. Vyas thoroughly reviewed my MRI and took the time to explain my condition and treatment options. He was very honest and upfront about the procedure, making sure I truly needed the injection before administering it. His transparency and genuine care for my well-being reassured me that this office isn’t just in it for the money — they are truly invested in their patients’ health. I highly recommend this office to anyone in need of pain management. They provide exceptional care with professionalism and integrity.

The staff (Tracy) and the medical folks are very nice. They explain everything to you in plain language before you even get started, and once you see doctor (Dr Scott), the assistant (Areyana) is gentle & sweet. They both will walk you through the entire process verbally, as they go and they make sure you are good before you leave as well. Above & beyond when it comes to bedside manner. Just make sure you don't get lost in the Kroger parking lot, listening to GPS. The clinic is inside Arrowhead across the street, behind Subway.

Questions About Diagnostic Spinal Nerve Blocks

Before scheduling the visit, how are medial branch blocks used to diagnose spinal pain before final scope approval?

Medial nerves are tested with a targeted injection near the facet joints to assess whether they carry the pain signal. Premier Injury Specialists reviews the response with your symptoms, examination, and records. A response can support facet involvement, but it does not prove that every source of pain comes from the facets. Disc, nerve root, and soft tissue causes still need clinical review.

What does a pain management physician check before this injection?

The pre-visit assessment checks your pain pattern, crash history, examination findings, and available imaging. Our team also reviews prior treatment and relevant medical records. Those details help decide whether the suspected pain source matches the purpose of a diagnostic injection. You do not need to guess which records matter, because we can explain what to bring during the consultation.

Which condition makes a different injection more suitable?

A suspected disc or nerve root problem may make an epidural steroid injection more suitable than a facet-focused diagnostic block. The treatment choice follows the pain source under review. Our physicians compare symptoms and findings before recommending an option. Patients with whiplash, herniated discs, sciatica, or radiculopathy may need different parts of the injury plan.

When should I ask about this procedure after a crash?

Ask about the procedure when neck or back pain continues and the examination suggests facet-related spinal pain. Patients in Avondale Estates can request an injury evaluation through our Metro Atlanta practice. Same-day evaluations are often available, but procedure timing depends on the assessment and treatment plan. Seek urgent medical attention for severe or rapidly changing symptoms.

Why might a diagnostic injection give useful information?

A diagnostic injection gives useful information because it tests a suspected pain pathway in a focused way. The response is considered alongside the examination and medical history. It does not replace a full injury evaluation, and results vary between patients. Our team uses the response as one part of a broader decision about follow-up care.

How does the first visit help with accident documentation?

The first visit records the accident history, symptoms, examination findings, and treatment discussion. Thorough medical documentation helps connect the care plan with the reported motor vehicle injury. Our practice also works with MedPay and attorney liens for eligible patients. Bring any available records so the physician can assess the injury in context.
