Why does back pain keep returning after a car accident, and when should I ask about medial branch blocks?

Recurring axial pain can reflect irritated facet joints, but an evaluation must confirm the pain source. A pain management physician reviews the crash history, symptoms, exam findings, and available records before discussing medial branch blocks. Seek urgent medical care for new weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or other severe warning signs.

Medial Branch Blocks for Brookhaven Accident Injuries

Medial branch blocks suit some people with focused neck or back pain after a motor vehicle collision. The pain often stays near the spine and may worsen with movement or extension.

The key decision is whether facet joints appear to contribute to the pain. Our team reviews the injury story, physical findings, imaging records when available, and other treatment history before recommending a plan.

This page serves buyers who want to understand the role of medial branch blocks, not just compare general pain clinics. A block may help clarify the pain source, but it isn't the right treatment for every disc, nerve, or soft tissue injury.

  • The pain pattern stays mainly in the neck or back.
  • A physician reviews the crash history and physical findings.
  • Existing imaging and treatment records are considered when available.
  • The plan separates facet-related pain from disc or nerve pain.

Service Overview

Medial branch blocks are targeted injections that test and calm small nerves carrying pain signals from spinal facet joints.

  • They differ from epidural steroid injections, which address inflammation around spinal nerves, and from radiofrequency ablation, which uses heat after a suitable response is established.
  • Premier Injury Specialists provides this evaluation and treatment for accident patients in Brookhaven and across Metro Atlanta.

Typical costs and sizing

“The second diagnostic procedure may only be performed a minimum of 2 weeks after the initial diagnostic procedure.”

“After the first diagnostic facet joint procedure, there must be a consistent positive response of at least 80% relief of primary (index) pain (with the duration of relief being consistent with the agent used)”

What Your Medial Branch Block Visit Includes

Premier Injury Specialists provides comprehensive Medial Branch Blocks in Brookhaven. Here's what you get:

  • A focused evaluation of accident-related neck or back pain.
  • A review of symptoms, injury history, and relevant medical records.
  • A discussion of whether facet joints may contribute to axial pain.
  • A personalized plan for medial branch blocks or another suitable treatment.
  • Thorough medical documentation for the injury and treatment course.

What Targeted Nerve Blocks May Clarify

The treatment may help identify whether facet joints contribute to your pain.

A focused plan can separate axial pain from radiculopathy or disc-related symptoms.

Clear findings can guide later discussions about radiofrequency ablation.

Coordinated records help connect your evaluation, treatment, and accident documentation.

Results vary, so follow-up findings remain part of the treatment decision.

How We Approach This Treatment Decision

Match the block to the pain pattern

The pain pattern guides the choice of treatment. We use the examination and injury history to assess fit. Medial branch blocks may be the wrong job when symptoms point mainly to a herniated disc, radiculopathy, or another condition.

Physician-LED treatment planning

Board-certified physicians in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine guide the plan. A certified physician assistant also supports coordinated patient care.

Keep injury records connected

Thorough medical documentation stays part of the care process. This matters when an auto accident involves MedPay or an attorney lien.

The scope this service is meant to handle

A person in Brookhaven with persistent neck or back pain after a collision may ask whether the pain comes from facet joints. We review the symptom pattern and available records before choosing a block, injection, or another treatment.

Process

How We Plan Medial Branch Blocks

1

Review the accident and symptoms

We discuss the collision, pain location, symptom pattern, prior care, and relevant medical records.

2

Assess the suspected pain source

The physician compares the examination findings with the history to decide whether facet-related pain is plausible.

3

Explain the treatment choice

We explain the purpose, possible risks, expected clinical role, and alternatives before setting a treatment plan.

4

Coordinate records and follow-up

Our practice keeps treatment notes and accident documentation connected as care continues.

I had a great experience at premier injury specialist after my car accident. From the moment I walked in, Tracy, the patient coordinator, made sure I understood the process and felt comfortable. Tony, the medical assistant, did an amazing job explaining the procedure in detail, which eased my nerves. Dr. Vyas thoroughly reviewed my MRI and took the time to explain my condition and treatment options. He was very honest and upfront about the procedure, making sure I truly needed the injection before administering it. His transparency and genuine care for my well-being reassured me that this office isn’t just in it for the money — they are truly invested in their patients’ health. I highly recommend this office to anyone in need of pain management. They provide exceptional care with professionalism and integrity.

The staff (Tracy) and the medical folks are very nice. They explain everything to you in plain language before you even get started, and once you see doctor (Dr Scott), the assistant (Areyana) is gentle & sweet. They both will walk you through the entire process verbally, as they go and they make sure you are good before you leave as well. Above & beyond when it comes to bedside manner. Just make sure you don't get lost in the Kroger parking lot, listening to GPS. The clinic is inside Arrowhead across the street, behind Subway.

My injection wasn't as bad as I thought. It was over quick and I was able to move and lift my legs in a way that I haven't in a while. This decision was well worth it. Office was clean and EVERYONE was absolutely amazing. 10 stars

Questions About Targeted Nerve Blocks

Who may benefit from medial branch blocks after an auto accident?

People with accident-related axial pain and suspected facet syndrome may benefit from medial branch blocks. Premier Injury Specialists reviews the pain pattern, examination, and injury records before recommending treatment. The block may not fit symptoms driven mainly by a herniated disc, radiculopathy, or widespread soft tissue injury. Results vary, and the physician explains the decision during the evaluation.

How does the first evaluation check whether this treatment fits?

The first evaluation compares your symptoms with examination findings and the accident history. We ask where the pain stays, what movements affect it, and what care you have tried. Available imaging and medical records add context. That review helps us decide whether a medial branch block, facet joint injection, epidural injection, or another plan fits.

What should I bring to a pain evaluation after a collision?

Relevant medical records, imaging reports, medication details, and accident information help the physician assess your condition. Bring any paperwork from earlier treatment and details about symptoms that started after the crash. Our team can explain which records matter during scheduling. MedPay or attorney lien information may also help coordinate eligible care.

Which treatment differs from a medial branch block?

Epidural steroid injections target inflammation around spinal nerves, while medial branch blocks assess pain linked to facet joints. Facet joint injections place medication into or near a facet joint. Radiofrequency ablation uses heat on selected nerves. The examination helps match the treatment to the suspected source of pain.

When should Brookhaven patients seek urgent medical attention?

New weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, severe numbness, or rapidly worsening symptoms need urgent medical attention. A scheduled pain evaluation addresses planned assessment of accident-related pain. Our team can review persistent neck or back symptoms, but urgent warning signs should not wait for a routine appointment.

Why might a block be the wrong choice for neck arthritis?

Neck arthritis does not automatically make medial branch blocks the right treatment. The pain pattern, examination, nerve symptoms, and medical records determine whether facet joints are involved. We may discuss another injection or treatment when findings point to a disc, spinal nerve, or different source. Individual results and treatment choices vary.
