Medial Branch Blocks in Riverdale for the next treatment decision

Medial branch blocks are used when neck or back pain may involve the small nerves that carry signals from spinal facet joints. This page focuses on what temporary relief means after the block and how that result may shape treatment planning.

A short period of relief can be useful information, but it doesn't prove that one procedure will work for every patient. We compare the relief pattern with your symptoms, physical examination, imaging records when available, and the original collision history.

Patients in Riverdale can receive coordinated injury care through clinics in Stockbridge and Buckhead. The decision may lead to continued care, another targeted injection, or discussion of radiofrequency ablation when the clinical findings support it.

  • Record how much pain relief you noticed after the block.
  • Note which movements became easier and when symptoms returned.
  • Bring collision records, imaging reports, and prior treatment information to the consultation.
  • Ask which findings support continued injection care or another treatment discussion.

Service Overview

Medial branch blocks are targeted injections that help assess pain carried by small spinal nerves.

  • They differ from epidural steroid injections, which address pain around spinal nerve roots rather than the medial branch nerves.
  • Premier Injury Specialists provides this service for accident-related injuries in Riverdale and across Metro Atlanta.

Typical costs and sizing

“The second diagnostic procedure may only be performed a minimum of 2 weeks after the initial diagnostic procedure.”

“After the first diagnostic facet joint procedure, there must be a consistent positive response of at least 80% relief of primary (index) pain (with the duration of relief being consistent with the agent used)”

What temporary relief can tell you

Temporary relief can help connect a pain pattern with the treated medial branch nerves.

A clear record of relief gives your physician useful information for treatment planning.

Focused evaluation helps separate facet-related pain from symptoms linked to discs, nerve roots, or soft tissue.

Thorough medical documentation supports continuity across your injury care.

Patients can discuss next steps with the same coordinated practice that completed the evaluation.

How we approach the next treatment decision

We compare relief with symptoms

The relief pattern matters more than a single pain score. We ask what changed, which movements felt easier, and when the pain returned.

We connect findings to treatment

Diagnostic results, examination findings, and medical records guide the next discussion. Customers receive a physician-led personalized treatment plan based on the injury picture.

We know when another service fits

Medial branch blocks may be the wrong choice when symptoms point to a disc, nerve root, joint, or soft tissue condition. We direct the plan toward the finding that best matches the pain.

Process

How we review results after the block

1

Review the pain history

We document the accident history, pain location, movement limits, and prior treatment before discussing the block result.

2

Compare the relief pattern

We ask which symptoms changed, which activities felt easier, and when the pain returned after the block.

3

Check the clinical findings

We compare the reported response with the physical examination and available medical records.

4

Build the treatment plan

We explain whether the findings support continued care, another injection, or a discussion of radiofrequency ablation.

The staff (Tracy) and the medical folks are very nice. They explain everything to you in plain language before you even get started, and once you see doctor (Dr Scott), the assistant (Areyana) is gentle & sweet. They both will walk you through the entire process verbally, as they go and they make sure you are good before you leave as well. Above & beyond when it comes to bedside manner. Just make sure you don't get lost in the Kroger parking lot, listening to GPS. The clinic is inside Arrowhead across the street, behind Subway.

My injection wasn't as bad as I thought. It was over quick and I was able to move and lift my legs in a way that I haven't in a while. This decision was well worth it. Office was clean and EVERYONE was absolutely amazing. 10 stars

Questions about medial branch block results and next steps

What does radiofrequency ablation mean if the block only helped briefly?

Radiofrequency ablation may be discussed when temporary relief supports a medial branch pain source. The block's duration alone doesn't decide eligibility. We also review the amount of relief, symptom return, examination findings, and medical records. The discussion focuses on whether the overall findings support that treatment or another plan.

How does Premier Injury Specialists provide medial branch blocks?

Premier Injury Specialists provides medial branch blocks through a coordinated injury-focused practice. Board-certified pain management physicians review the accident history, symptoms, and records before treatment planning. Our team explains the purpose of the procedure and documents the findings. Care is intended for motor vehicle collision injuries, not general primary care or workers' compensation cases.

Which records should I bring to the first consultation for Medial Branch Blocks?

Accident records, imaging reports, prior treatment notes, and medication information help us review your case. Bring any document connected to the collision or current pain. Patients don't need to organize every detail alone. We can discuss what is available and identify the information needed for a focused evaluation.

When is another injection a better fit than medial branch blocks?

Another injection may fit better when symptoms point to an epidural, facet joint, occipital nerve, or other pain source. The pain location and examination help guide that choice. We compare your symptoms with the suspected source before recommending a procedure. Treatment planning also considers the records from your accident care.

Why can pain return after a medial branch block?

Pain can return because the block may provide temporary diagnostic relief without changing the underlying injury. Returning symptoms need review, not automatic escalation. We ask how much relief occurred, which activities improved, and how the pain feels now. Those details help us decide whether further evaluation or treatment planning is appropriate.

What changes the cost of this treatment for an accident patient?

The evaluation, treatment selected, medical records, and care plan can change the cost. We explain the expected services and provide upfront pricing during the consultation. Eligible patients may use MedPay or attorney liens, which can affect how care is arranged. Coverage and eligibility are reviewed for each patient.
