Process

How We Review Spinal Cord Stimulation Concerns

1

Describe the symptom change

You explain when pain changed, where it occurs, and whether the device feels different.

2

Review the treatment history

We review prior spinal cord stimulation care, accident-related diagnoses, records, and treatments already tried.

3

Assess possible device causes

Our physicians assess whether the pattern points toward lead position, battery function, infection, hardware pressure, or another pain source.

4

Set the treatment discussion

We explain whether adjustment, replacement, interventional care, or another evaluation best matches the findings.

How We Approach Device-Related Pain Decisions

Start with the symptom pattern

Patients explain where pain occurs, when it changed, and how it affects daily activity. We use that history with the clinical assessment to guide the next discussion.

Separate device issues from injury pain

Lead position, battery function, infection signs, and hardware pressure can point to different concerns. Our board-certified pain management physicians review those possibilities within the broader accident injury.

Know when another treatment fits

Spinal cord stimulation may be the wrong choice when the pain source needs a different evaluation or when warning signs require urgent medical care. We discuss other focused treatments when they better match the findings.

Device Concern and Clinical Focus

These concerns can look similar, but each one calls for a different clinical review.

Questions About Spinal Cord Stimulation Device Concerns

What complications can occur with spinal cord stimulation?

Lead migration, battery failure, infection, and hardware discomfort are possible complications. Premier Injury Specialists reviews the symptom pattern, treatment history, and injury records to help identify the concern. Fever, drainage, new weakness, or rapidly worsening pain needs prompt medical attention. The next step may involve adjustment, replacement discussion, or another form of pain care.

How does lead migration change the treatment decision?

Lead migration can change where stimulation is felt and may reduce the intended effect. We compare the new pain pattern with the earlier treatment response and available device records. Adjustment may be discussed when the findings support it, while replacement requires a separate treatment plan. Patients should report new symptoms instead of changing device settings on their own.

Which signs suggest an infection needs medical attention?

Fever, drainage, spreading redness, or worsening tenderness near the hardware needs prompt medical evaluation. Infection concerns cannot be judged from pain alone. Our physicians review the skin findings, symptom changes, and related medical history. Patients with severe or rapidly changing symptoms should seek urgent medical care.

Why might hardware feel uncomfortable after treatment?

Hardware discomfort may come from local pressure, irritation, or a change in the surrounding pain pattern. The assessment considers where the tenderness occurs and how it relates to movement or touch. We also review the original accident injury because back pain can have more than one source. That distinction helps shape the treatment discussion.

What can cause a spinal cord stimulation battery to fail?

Battery failure can reduce or stop the electrical support that the system provides. Device history, symptom changes, and the treatment plan help guide the assessment. Our team explains what the available records show and whether battery-related care belongs in the next step. The cost discussion depends on the evaluation and treatment needed.

Does Forest Park care include treatment for related accident injuries?

Yes, our Forest Park care includes evaluations for crash-related neck pain, back pain, herniated discs, sciatica, headaches, and radiculopathy. Patients can also discuss injections, nerve blocks, and other interventional options when those treatments fit the findings. We keep the injury evaluation and medical documentation within one coordinated practice.
