Why does pain continue after surgery even when the incision looks healed?

Pain can continue when nerves, joints, discs, or soft tissue remain irritated after surgery. A medical evaluation helps identify the pain source and decide whether medication review, gentle movement, ice therapy, or an injection fits the condition. Severe new weakness, loss of bladder control, or other urgent symptoms need prompt medical attention.

Working With Our Team in Morrow

Post-surgical pain treatment addresses pain that remains after a procedure connected to an auto accident injury. The work may involve neck pain, back pain, herniated discs, sciatica, headaches, radiculopathy, or soft tissue injury.

The key decision is whether the pain needs medication review, movement guidance, an injection, or another form of targeted care. Our physicians review the injury history and available records, then explain which options fit the findings. This page focuses on pain after surgery, not general primary care, urgent care, or workers’ compensation care.

  • Bring surgical records, imaging reports, medication details, and information about the accident when available.
  • Ask which pain source the treatment plan addresses.
  • Discuss nerve blocks, joint injections, or epidural treatment only after a medical evaluation.
  • Confirm how treatment findings will be documented for your ongoing care.

How We Plan Care After Surgery

1

Review the surgical and accident history

We review the surgery, accident details, symptoms, medication history, and available medical records.

2

Check the pain pattern

We examine where pain travels, how movement affects it, and whether symptoms suggest nerve, joint, spine, or soft tissue involvement.

3

Discuss suitable treatment options

We explain whether medication review, gentle movement, ice therapy, a nerve block, or another procedure fits the findings.

4

Document the care plan

We record the evaluation and treatment plan so the patient has thorough medical documentation for ongoing care.

How We Approach Ongoing Pain After Surgery

Physician-LED treatment planning

Board-certified pain management physicians review the injury and guide the treatment plan. The first decision is whether the pain fits medication review, movement care, an injection, or another option.

Targeted procedures when appropriate

Epidural steroid injections, facet joint injections, medial branch blocks, and nerve blocks address specific pain patterns. We explain the purpose and limits of each procedure before treatment.

A clear service boundary

This service is not general primary care, urgent care, or workers’ compensation care. It fits patients seeking care for pain caused by a motor vehicle collision.

Treatment Options for Different Pain Patterns

These options address different pain sources, so the evaluation determines which one fits.

Treatment optionMain focusWhen it may be discussed
Oral medicationGeneral pain controlWhen medication fits the symptoms and medical history
Epidural steroid injectionIrritated spinal nervesWhen symptoms suggest pain near the spine
Facet joint injectionPain from facet jointsWhen the clinical pattern points to those joints
Nerve blockA selected nerve pathwayWhen pain follows a focused nerve pattern

Questions About Pain After Surgery

What methods can reduce pain after surgery?

Oral medication can reduce pain after surgery when the medication fits the patient’s condition and medical history. Other options include ice therapy, gentle movement, nerve blocks, epidural steroid injections, facet joint injections, and joint injections. Premier Injury Specialists reviews the pain source first, then explains which options may fit. Individual results vary.

How does a pain management physician assess pain after surgery?

A pain management physician assesses symptoms, movement, medical history, medication use, and available records. Our team also considers whether pain follows a nerve, joint, spine, or soft tissue pattern. The evaluation helps separate ongoing injury pain from routine recovery concerns. We then explain suitable treatment options and document the plan.

For Post-Surgical Pain Treatment, which records should I bring to the first appointment?

Surgical records, imaging reports, medication details, and accident information help us assess ongoing pain. Bring discharge papers and notes about symptoms when available. A referral or MRI may not decide every treatment, because the clinical evaluation guides the next step. We can discuss what remains needed during the consultation.

Why might a nerve block be discussed after surgery?

A nerve block may be discussed when the pain pattern suggests irritation of a specific nerve. Occipital nerve blocks address selected head and upper-neck pain patterns, while medial branch blocks assess pain linked to small spinal joints. Our physicians explain the target, purpose, and limits before recommending any procedure.

What changes the cost of an injection or nerve block?

The treatment area, procedure selected, medical evaluation, and coverage arrangement affect the cost. MedPay and attorney liens may help eligible patients receive care without an out-of-pocket payment at the visit. A free consultation gives us the information needed to discuss the treatment plan and related financial questions.

Can a pain management physician perform surgery?

Pain management physicians provide evaluations, medication guidance, and targeted procedures, but surgery is not the service described here. Our physicians may use injections, nerve blocks, or radiofrequency ablation when those options fit the findings. If another type of care is needed, the evaluation helps clarify the next medical question.
